What we do
The South Australian government is committed growing the state's business and industry by ensuring that priority industry sectors are enabled by a high performing research and innovation system and a highly skilled workforce.
We bring together creativity, entrepreneurship, science, research, business, industry and skills to create jobs, grow new enterprise and contribute to a vibrant, dynamic economy.
We are supporting our entrepreneurship ecosystem and the creation of new businesses in the state through our Future Industries Exchange for Entrepreneurship, or FIXE, which provides startups and entrepreneurs with the advice and tools they need to develop their businesses and go global.
We work with businesses, researchers and innovators, building competitive advantage across South Australia by connecting game-changing ideas with small, medium and large businesses across industry sectors.
Our 10-year science and innovation strategy, EXCITE, is growing business investment in research and development, driving innovation and increasing productivity.
Our 10-year Creative Industries Strategy is working to build and accelerate our creative industries sector through the work of the South Australian Film Corporation, the Music Development Office, JamFactory and other creative organisations.
We support businesses to keep their doors open through difficult times, and we work to create an environment in which they can grow, enter new markets, and create jobs.
We are investing in skills and training pathways to ensure that South Australians are equipped for success in a future workforce.
Our Skilling South Australia program is driving growth in apprenticeships and supplying industry with the qualified workers it needs. South Australia is now leading the nation in the growth of people taking up apprenticeships and traineeships, and a huge number of businesses have employed an apprentice or trainee for the first time.
We have also partnered with the Australian Government on the JobTrainer program, which offers low-fee options, short courses and qualifications in high skills demand areas for school leavers, job seekers and young people. As changes to industry structures and new ways of working transform the way businesses operate, we are working to adapt our skills system to make it easier to navigate and better geared towards these changing needs.
We are facilitating significant reforms that will streamline the employer registration process and fairly balance apprenticeship and traineeship obligations for all parties.
As the state recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Australian government is continuing to work with entrepreneurs, researchers, business, industry, creatives and learners to solve modern challenges with innovation and new thinking.
